Office of Students and Post Graduate Development

During the winter break I had some important applications and documents that I needed to write before mid January. It was hard to start anything during the fall semester because I was running around trying to keep up with final papers and exams. So I thought to myself, it’s alright, I’ll have tons of time over the break where I can write these extremely important applications. Well, it didn’t turn out that way. All throughout the break I was putting it off, busy with family and friends and holidays, until finally I sat down and wrote everything. I emailed my professors who were helping me and they told me to get into contact with the Office of Students and Post Graduate Development. I had written a resume and a personal statement, but without ever looking at a sample or a formatting template. By this time, I only have a week until my application is due, and I’m away traveling with my family and have no internet access. So I call the office and they set me up with the advisor associated with my house, Weis, and we scheduled an appointment. The woman that I worked with not only spend an entire hour of her time on the phone explaining the different tricks to writing applications, but she and I continued contact with one another for the remainder of that week to make sure that everything I had written was perfect. Up until this time I had heard of the Office, but I never thought to use the services they had. Franklin and Marshall is a place in which everything you could possibly imagine is provided for you, you just have to be the student to go out of your way to take advantage of the opportunities. In the case of this particular Office, their staff are fully equipped to help students with anything they may want to pursue after their time in college. It is hard as an incoming freshman to even think that far ahead in the future, but trust me, it will come in handy.
