One of the many tactics Franklin and Marshall uses to try to create a sense of community is the housing system. It appeals to Harry Potter fans in general, of which this school has many, but it also does a good job in creating friend circles within your house by means of special events. I happen to be a part of the Schnader House, which was then turned into the Weis House. One of the events that we do weekly is Wednesday Bagels, which was begun by the Schnader House originally
. Every Wednesday morning, the Housing Advisors of the house travel down the the College Corner Cafe off of Harrisburg Avenue and bring back a few dozen bagels, different kinds of spreads, coffee, and orange juice for all of the kids in the house to have before their morning classes. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to live in Weis House this year, because the housing system lasts for all the years you are a part of F&M, I can still go down to the House and enjoy breakfast with the other students involved. I feel as though its these kind of friendship building experiences that help the students at this college develop a tight knit community, and feel comfortable being away from home. I know last year and this year I have really enjoyed attending Wednesday Bagels, and I hope to continue to do so in the future. The picture is some of the decorations the College Corner Cafe put up to celebrate the Halloween season. They are known for their holiday spirit and their fantastic food!
