Well, my senior year has begun and what better way to spend it than studying abroad in London, at the London Dramatic Academy (LDA). I do miss being on campus and welcoming all of the new students, but I am more excited about the opportunity to experience theatre in London, and with such a wonderful program! Franklin and Marshall has four students currently at the London Dramatic Academy; myself, Nick Gallo, Lena Stein, and Patrick Hitschler. This is the first time that F&M has sent students to LDA for study abroad, one of main programs that students often apply to is the British American Dramatic Academy (BADA). I feel LDA offers a more hands-on approach to the work that students will embark on.
LDA offers a 14 week intensive theatre program teaching the principles of British Acting and uses a practical approach rather than a theoretical approach to acting, theatre history, and more. My full-time schedule includes classes in British Theatre Acting, British Theatre Now and Then, Movement and Stage Combat, and Voice Training for Actors. In addition to my classes I’ll be making cultural visits to different museums, galleries, and of course, theatre’s!! Classes have yet to begin and I’ve been spending my time reviewing course material and finishing the required readings for classes.
I think all students should take the opportunity and consider studying abroad, it’s a wonderful way to study the culture, life, and energy of another country. Opportunities like this do not come all the time so why not take advantage while you can!
